Alert! 5 Red Heifers in Israel…THE RED HEIFER IS NOT A TYPE OF THE MESSIAH…Heifers are Female…not male!

Admittedly you will find the symbols of the Messiah; Cedar Wood, Hyssop, and Scarlett combined with the ashes of the Red Heifer…but the Heifer itself is not the Messiah. Many Bible teachers want to make all the Levitical sacrifices about the Messiah directly…that is faulty assumption from the start.

The Red Heifer has become one of the most talked about prophetic current events topics of our day and has been for decades. Many look to this event immediately before the building of the End-times Temple in Jerusalem. Most claim the Red Heifer is prophetic of the Messiah…but then again, they make every sacrifice in the temple about the Messiah as well. I would disagree. Everything in the temple order is a prophetic pattern of heavenly realities…not everything is about Yeshua…though He may have a part in those symbols in how they interact.

The imagery of the red heifer is yet another foreshadowing of the sacrifice of Christ for believers’ sin. The Lord Jesus was “without blemish,” just as the red heifer was to be. As the heifer was sacrificed “outside the camp” (Numbers 19:3), Jesus was crucified outside of Jerusalem (Hebrews 13:11–12). And just as the ashes of the red heifer cleansed people from the contamination of death, so the sacrifice of Christ saves us from the penalty and corruption of death. On the surface I can see how people can draw this conclusion…but does it follow the patterns of the Torah accurately? Is this really prophetic of the Messiah…or someone else? Let’s get the record straight on the context. This chapter about the Red Heifer occurs with Eleazar serving as priest before Aaron. Why is this significant? Aaron has lost his first and second born, Nadab and Abihu, (Numbers 3:4) for offering strange fire before the Lord.

Again, remember the prophetic typology…they are repeating the prophetic pattern of Adam and Eve. Nadab and Abihu come under a sentence of death and their role is now fulfilled by the third born Eleazar (prophetic of one who is participating in the Messianic High Priest role). Just like Aaron and Miriam are the first and second born, Moses is then the third born. Eleazar is ordained by God to be over the chief of the Levites. The first and second born are a duality of one under death and the third born is a picture of that duality’s redeemer.

Numbers 3:32, And Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest shall be chief over the chief of the Levites, and have the oversight of them that keep the charge of the sanctuary.

We are going to go through the whole chapter and identify the key points. If you are familiar with the details of the offering of the Red Heifer continue below for observations.

Numbers 19:1, And the Lord spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, 2 This is the ordinance of the law which the Lord hath commanded, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring thee a red heifer without spot, wherein is no blemish, and upon which never came yoke: 3 And ye shall give her unto Eleazar the priest, that he may bring her forth without the camp, and one shall slay her before his face: 4 And Eleazar the priest shall take of her blood with his finger, and sprinkle of her blood directly before the tabernacle of the congregation seven times: 5 And one shall burn the heifer in his sight; her skin, and her flesh, and her blood, with her dung, shall he burn: 6 And the priest shall take cedar wood, and hyssop, and scarlet, and cast it into the midst of the burning of the heifer. 7 Then the priest shall wash his clothes, and he shall bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp, and the priest shall be unclean until the even. 8 And he that burneth her shall wash his clothes in water, and bathe his flesh in water, and shall be unclean until the even. 9 And a man that is clean shall gather up the ashes of the heifer, and lay them up without the camp in a clean place, and it shall be kept for the congregation of the children of Israel for a water of separation: it is a purification for sin. 10 And he that gathereth the ashes of the heifer shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even: and it shall be unto the children of Israel, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among them, for a statute for ever. 11 He that toucheth the dead body of any man shall be unclean seven days. 12 He shall purify himself with it on the third day, and on the seventh day he shall be clean: but if he purify not himself the third day, then the seventh day he shall not be clean. 13 Whosoever toucheth the dead body of any man that is dead, and purifieth not himself, defileth the tabernacle of the Lord; and that soul shall be cut off from Israel: because the water of separation was not sprinkled upon him, he shall be unclean; his uncleanness is yet upon him. 14 This is the law, when a man dieth in a tent: all that come into the tent, and all that is in the tent, shall be unclean seven days. 15 And every open vessel, which hath no covering bound upon it, is unclean. 16 And whosoever toucheth one that is slain with a sword in the open fields, or a dead body, or a bone of a man, or a grave, shall be unclean seven days. 17 And for an unclean person they shall take of the ashes of the burnt heifer of purification for sin, and running water shall be put thereto in a vessel: 18 And a clean person shall take hyssop, and dip it in the water, and sprinkle it upon the tent, and upon all the vessels, and upon the persons that were there, and upon him that touched a bone, or one slain, or one dead, or a grave: 19 And the clean person shall sprinkle upon the unclean on the third day, and on the seventh day: and on the seventh day he shall purify himself, and wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and shall be clean at even. 20 But the man that shall be unclean, and shall not purify himself, that soul shall be cut off from among the congregation, because he hath defiled the sanctuary of the Lord: the water of separation hath not been sprinkled upon him; he is unclean. 21 And it shall be a perpetual statute unto them, that he that sprinkleth the water of separation shall wash his clothes; and he that toucheth the water of separation shall be unclean until even. 22 And whatsoever the unclean person toucheth shall be unclean; and the soul that toucheth it shall be unclean until even.

Notice:

• The people are to bring the Red Heifer…not the High Priest and not the priest. This is Important!

• The Heifer is a female…not a male…so likely not prophetic of the Messiah who is the “ascended male”.

• The Heifer is red and as such is associated with the earth, the female, blood and death.

• The people give Eleazar the Red Heifer in the camp and he brings her outside the camp so another can slay her before his face. This sacrifice happens in exile where you send those who are defiled, blemished, unclean, having a broken image and are associated with death and the fall of Adam and Eve.

• Her blood is sprinkled before the tabernacle of the congregation seven times. Remember Miriam’s exile occurred for seven days and Adam and Eve’s exile is for 7,000 years.

• The Red Heifer is burned before Eleazar.

• Cedar wood, hyssop, and scarlet are cast in with the burning of the Red Heifer. This is where many go the wrong direction and claim this is the Messiah…whereas I would contend the symbols are of the Messiah…but are cast in with the Red Heifer for its redemption. She is female…the Messiah is male. The fall of Adam and Eve is being undone by the Messiah and the Red Heifer.

• The priest washes his clothes and himself in water and enters the camp…but remains unclean until evening…the close of the day…and the start of another day. The same applies for the one who burns the Red Heifer.

•  A man that is clean gathers up the ashes and keeps them outside the camp for waters of separation for the children of Israel, which is for purification of sin.

• He that was clean and gathered the ashes is now unclean till evening.

• Touch a dead body and you are unclean for seven days. Remember the prophetic parallels. If you touch death…you become as death. It’s contagious. You’ll remain dead till seven days are completed. This is the same as the exile of Adam and Eve.

o But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. (Genesis 2:17)

• If you use the waters of separation…the union of the ashes of the Red Heifer with the symbols of the Messiah…the cedar wood, hyssop and the scarlett on the third day…you will then be made clean on the seventh day. If you don’t…you won’t. Remember Yeshua came in the middle of the pattern (Week of 1,000 years) so that we might be made clean on the seventh day (Day of the Lord Prophetically-Sabbath). If you do not take advantage of this water of separation via the mikvah (baptism) you won’t be made clean from your sin (dead) corrupted and broken image.

• Notice the contagion of death is associated with one dying in a tent (garment/body) and others also being in the tent. They are also made unclean by his (Adam’s) death/sin.

• Every vessel without a proper covering is unclean.

• Anyone who touches a dead person or part of a dead person is unclean and considered also dead and exiled until the seven days are fulfilled.

• How is this corrupted state remedied? Take the ashes of the Red Heifer and combine them with running water in a vessel. Take hyssop and dip it in the water of separation and sprinkle on the tent, vessel, or person that has been corrupted by death and uncleanness.

•  A clean person (Yeshua) shall sprinkle the unclean on the third and seventh day, then on the seventh day he should clean himself and his garments, bathe and be clean at evening.

• He who refuses to do this will be cut off from the congregation and remain in a state of death forever.

• He that was clean and sprinkling the water is made unclean by the act and will remain unclean until the evening. Yeshua having a perfect image and not associated with death…became death for us.

o Philippians 2:8, And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

So, I do not think the Red Heifer is prophetic of the Messiah, I think it is prophetic of the Holy Spirit that resides upon fallen and corrupted man and has become defiled by our dead state. The only way to fix this is for it to join with the Messiah and His symbols in the redemptive work of cleansing the exiles that remain outside the camp for 7,000 years (All mankind exiled from Eden). Just as Moses and Aaron/Miriam work in tandem, so also does Yeshua and the Holy Spirit/us work together. Just as Miriam became defiled, so also are we as fallen and corrupt images of God that need to be cleansed by the work of the Messiah and the Holy Spirit (Red Heifer). It happens on the third day and then we are made clean by that work on the seventh day. This is our prophetic history and future. And as such Miriam and Eve are prophetically typical of the Harlot woman that has defiled herself and is rebelling against the work of the Messiah Yeshua and corrupting all nations with her abominations.

What you may want to learn more about is how Aaron refused to partake of the Sin Offering after the death of his two sons until he is confronted by Moses…and how this is prophetic of Israel’s rejection of the Messiah until the End. How does this link up with the Red Heifer?
